AMU today has held the kick-off meeting for ‘2nd International Field Course’ that involves 66 students from KU Leuven, Belgium, ETH Zurich, Switzerland and host AMU. Course will continue for two weeks in seven selected kebeles as research sites in Arba Minch Zuria i.e. Chano, Chencha, Mirab Abaya, Dorze, Lante, Geresse and Dembile. Arba Minch University and its Principal Investigator has signed a tripartite agreement with The Ethiopian Biotechnology Institute (EBTI) to embark on biotechnology project - ‘Innovative Enset Technology for Gentle Processing, Value-added Products, Safe Storage and Longer Shelf-life’ that will last three years; the project will incur ETB 3,962,398, which is funded by EBTI.  

Research, the engine of growth in any field is prerequisite for higher education institutions that attract probing minds from across board and ensure scientific atmosphere where they grow and harness myriad innovations that have socio-economic implications. AMU, having gauged its gravity is motivating academic staff and despite hiccups Executive Research Directorate firmly believes that engagement in this phenomenon will rise and even female researchers will commit themselves, said Executive Director, Dr Teshome Yirgu.
