Arba Minch University has celebrated 10th National Flag Day with great verve and enthusiasm, at Institute of Technology office premises in the presence of university community on 16th October, 2017. This year’s ‘Flag Day’ was celebrated under the motto: ‘We have a clear vision and we are set for greater victory.’  Click here to see the pictures.

The Vice President for Business and Development, Mrs Rahel Elias, representing AMU President, Dr Damtew Darza, hoisted the Federal Flag - Sendaq Alama – and called upon people’s allegiance to national ethos and determination to contribute in realizing composite development of Ethiopia by performing their respective duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.

She further said, this is the momentous occasion, wherein we must remember bravery of our patriots, who laid down their lives to disentangle nation from the clutches of despotic rulers. They deserve our obeisance for giving us political freedom, but yet, we are into different kinds of bondage called poverty, that demands equal commitment from the part of one and all so that we can have economic breakthrough to march ahead unlike other nations in the world.

The Scientific Director of Institute of Technology, Dr Alemayehu Chufamo, in his brief address said, ‘Sendaq Alama’ is an embodiment of our sacrifice, prolonged struggle and uncompromising freedom. It’s a beacon that reminds us about our diversity, democratic spirit and patriotism that keep us rooted in our national splendor, ethnic diversity and love for sovereignty.

Exemplifying further about ‘Sendaq Alama’, he said, it’s combination of two words, wherein first symbolizes a pole, the next denotes symbol, and both signify our national identity, unity and nationalism and political sovereignty.

The flag of South Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region was hoisted by Assistant to Administrative Vice President, Mr Malla Maldaye; while AMU’s flag was unfurled by Corporate Communication Directorate Director, Mr Fissiha Bekele.

The celebration got off with people gathering at Institute of Technology’s administrative office porch. All holding miniature flag in their hands, were administered a kind of oath to work for the integrity and economic development of the nation. Most of the top university officials, administrative staff, students and others were in attendance.
