Arba Minch University Senate in its communiqué released on October 30, 2019, has stated that four of its senior academic staff, who had applied for the position of Associate Professor, have been promoted with immediate effect; as supporting documents submitted by them have been duly evaluated and verified.

Four Assistant Professors, Dr Alemayehu Hailemichael, Dr Fekadu Massebo and Dr Ramish Duraisamy from College of Natural Sciences and Dr Yechale Kebede, College of Social Sciences and Humanities of Geographical and Environmental Studies department had applied for the academic position of Associate Professor.

Having evaluated and verified the supporting documents by all above applicants against the stated Senate Legislation under Article 8 (8.1 to 8.5), AMU Senate found that with regard to required elements such as Effective Teaching (40%), Publications (35%), Participation in University affairs (15%) and Professional and related public services (10%), Dr Fekadu Massebo, Dr Alemayehu Hailemichael, Dr Ramish Duraisamy and Dr Yechale Kebede have had optimal points to their credit, hence all were promoted to the position of Associate Professor.

One must know that following required criteria for the position of Associate Professor is stated under The AMU Senate Legislation under Article 8 (8.1 to 8.5), it says, apart from a PhD degree or its equivalent, one must have 4 years of effective teaching experience as an Assistant Professor.

Further one must have at least two articles published in a reputable journal since last promotion or must have a textbook/book based on original research to his/her credit or 4 realized artistic or professional projects or one published article and two realized artistic or professional projects or one publication and release of one technological package through a nationally accredited mechanism since becoming an Assistant Professor

And most importantly, applicant must show active participation in the affairs of the university along with potential contribution in Community Service, which is recently been made absolutely mandatory by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of academics.
