Arba Minch University’s Institute of Technology has inked a general Memorandum of Understanding with Hawassa University’s Institute of Technology to initiate collaborative activities between AMU’s Faculty of Architecture & Urban Planning and HU’s Faculty of Civil Engineering & Built Environment. This general MoU will serve as platform to launch joint endeavors in academic, research, exchange of staff, students and project activities. Click here to see the pictures

Arba Minch Institute of Technology’s Scientific Director’s delegate, Dr Muluneh Lemma and Hawassa University Institute of Technology’s Scientific Director, Dr Fasika Bete Giorgis signed the agreement in the presence of officials from both institutions at Main Campus on 2nd April, 2021.

Dr Muluneh Lemma, said, it’s a preliminary stage, later on, we will go into specifics as our respective technical teams are perusing and assessing the areas of mutual interest and preparing guidelines in that regard where launching of academic programs will be given prominence. More importantly, we will go into joint research engagement as well and secure funds. And to globalize ongoing endeavors and increase the footprints of our respective universities, we will collaborate with global institutions as universities from Germany, England and Malaysia are ready for formal framework from our side, he emphasized.

This MoU is expected to continue for 3 years that will pave the way for specific agreements in the identified areas. At the outset both institutions may develop post-graduate programs using available resources effectively.

Faculty members from both institutions may exchange teaching staff to impart short-term training, consultation and incurring expenses will be borne by respective parties. Master students from either party who meet the specific criteria can engage in degree and non-degree granting program depending upon the decision of the receiving institutions.

Both parties are bound to encourage Architectural & Urban and regional planning and related research collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Both will promote and facilitate exchange programs for doctoral fellow training which must be based on mutual interest. Both can develop joint research projects and in case it’s approved, both can look for funding outside and all related activities have to be carried out in equitable manner.

This agreement is not binding on either party with regard to any direct, indirect, consequential, special or incidental damages arising from or related to this MoU.
