AMU President, Dr Feleke Woldeyes, will unfurl the flag at 8.30 am amid the presence of varsity top brasses and community members. President will also deliver the message on the occasion, said the overall organizing in-charge, Director of Corporate Communication Directorate, Mr Genene Gedebu Feleha.

Community School students would lead in singing national anthem and also recite patriotic poems to make every one reiterate their vow to protect the Constitutional integrity and territorial sanctity of Ethiopia as a great nation.

Ethiopian 'National Flag' endearingly called Sendek Alama is said to be the oldest flag in the world that represents wonderful and majestic history of the nation.

The history has it that the flag's tri-colour was previously the official banner of the Ethiopian Empire's Solomonic dynasty. These three colors of the flag have had special importance since at least the early 17th century.

The three traditional colours date back to Emperor Menelik and were first used in a flag in 1897. The current flag and emblem are said to be adopted after the defeat of the Marxist Mengistu regime (in power from 1974 -1991).

The emblem represents both the diversity in many aspects and unity of the country. Blue stands for peace, the star represents diversity & unity, and the sun's rays symbolize prosperity. The green recalls the land, yellow stands for peace and hope, and red is symbolic of strength.
