Dr. Damtew is an associate professor of Educational Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Arba Minch University, Ethiopia. After completed his BA study in the year 1990, he served as a teacher and director at high schools for five consecutive years. Then after since 1996 for seven years he served as teacher trainer and vice dean at Arba Minch Teacher Education College. Dr. Damtew joined Arba Minch University in the year 2005 as a lecture and began his service of offering education and psychology courses for prospective secondary school teachers at the College of Teacher Education in the University. In addition to course offering service, he also deliver short term training on teaching professional skill named as Instructional Skills Training and Higher Diploma training for the university teachers. Moreover, Dr. Damtew has served at various levels of academic leadership positions as: coordinator, special assistant for academic vice president, academic vice president and president of Arba Minch University.  Dr. Damtew has conducted various thematic and grand researches and has six publication of research work results.  Currently, in addition to presidential service, he is teaching and supervising graduate students in the department of psychology in the university.

In general, his professional expertise in teaching and research works is in the areas of teaching learning methodology, educational assessment and guidance and counseling.
