About AWTI, Community Engagement Coordination Office

The Community Engagement Coordination Office of Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (AWTI) is responsible for strengthening the Institute’s engagement with communities, government institutions, development partners, industries, and other stakeholders. The Office serves as a bridge between academic knowledge, research, technology, and community needs, ensuring that the Institute’s expertise contributes directly to solving real-world development challenges.

The Office aims to promote evidence-based solutions, local innovation, sustainable development, and meaningful community participation, while creating opportunities for students and staff to apply their knowledge and expertise in practical community settings.

Mission

The primary mission of the office is to conduct research focused on addressing the problems within the community to develop and implement projects that can solve community problems; to carry out research based on problem-solving and sustainable water usage and disseminate their results; to undertake community-based and problem-solving community engagement tasks; and to facilitate meaningful participation and coordination between water technology institutions and local communities, collaborating to effectively address water challenges.

Mandate and major functions of AWTI, Community Engagement Coordination Office

The Community Engagement Coordination Office of Arba Minch Water Technology Institute is mandated to coordinate, facilitate, monitor, and document demand-driven community engagement activities by mobilizing the Institute’s knowledge, research outputs, technologies, professional expertise, and human resources to address community development challenges; strengthen university-community-industry-government partnerships; facilitate training, outreach, technology transfer and community development projects. The office ensures that AWTI’s academic and research activities generate sustainable, inclusive, and practical benefits for the communities and other stakeholders across the catchments of Arba Minch University.
