About the Director
The director of institute–industry linkage and technology transfer at the Arba Minch Water Technology Institute (AWTI), Arba Minch University, is responsible for strengthening collaboration between the Institute and industries, governmental and non-governmental organizations, professional associations, development partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
The Director office serves as a bridge between academic knowledge, research, innovation, and practical applications by facilitating partnerships, technology transfer, consultancy, community engagement, and the utilization of research outputs to address real-world challenges. It works to create sustainable linkages that enhance the relevance, quality, and impact of the Institute's teaching, research, innovation, and community service activities.

Mission
The director is committed to establishing and strengthening strategic partnerships between AWTI and industry, public institutions, private organizations, development partners, and other stakeholders; facilitating the transfer and commercialization of appropriate technologies and research outputs; promoting innovation and entrepreneurship; and ensuring that the Institute's expertise, technologies, and services contribute meaningfully to national and local development.
Major Functions and Responsibilities
The Director office undertakes the following major functions:
· Establishing and strengthening sustainable partnerships between AWTI and industries, governmental and non-governmental organizations, professional institutions, and development partners.
· Facilitating institute-industry collaboration in teaching, research, innovation, consultancy, and community engagement.
· Identifying industry and societal needs and linking them with the expertise and research capacity available at AWTI.
· Facilitating the transfer, adaptation, utilization, and commercialization of technologies and research outputs generated by the Institute.
· Promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-based solutions among students, academic staff, researchers, and other stakeholders.
· Coordinating and facilitating collaborative research, consultancy, training, and professional development activities with external partners.
· Supporting the development and implementation of memoranda of understanding, partnership agreements, and other forms of institutional collaboration.
· Facilitating internship, practical training, field attachment, and other industry-based learning opportunities for students where applicable.
· Supporting the dissemination and uptake of research findings, innovations, technologies, and expertise generated by AWTI.
· Facilitating intellectual property awareness, protection, management, and technology commercialization in collaboration with relevant University offices.
· Identifying opportunities for joint projects, grants, consultancy services, and other resource-mobilization initiatives.
· Maintaining and strengthening relationships with industry, government institutions, private sector organizations, development partners, and professional associations.
· Monitoring and documenting institute–industry linkage activities, technology transfer initiatives, partnerships, achievements, and impacts.
· Promoting opportunities for academic staff, researchers, students, and partners to engage in collaborative innovation and technology development.
· Performing other duties and responsibilities assigned in accordance with the University's policies and organizational structure.
