Vice President for Research and Community Services

 

The office of the Vice President for Research and Community Services (VPRCS) is accountable to the President of the University. It leads two core processes: namely Research and Community Services. Moreover, the University-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer (UIL/TTD) responsibilities are also headed by the office. The office of VPRCS plays a vital role in directing, shaping up and monitoring its Research, Community services and the UIL/TTD initiatives being carried out by the university both within the institution and outside. It also shares the vision, mission and values of the university and works in ensuring these are achieved.

Three Directorates and seven Research Centers are accountable to the office of VPRCS. The Directorates and Centers are responsible in ensuring quality in research at individual, team of researchers and institutional level maintained and community engagement is strengthened through a collaborative and a resource sharing principles where the community’s heart-felt needs are addressed and its welfare is safeguarded.

Recently, Arba Minch University along with eight other sister universities has been branded as a research university where scientific thoughts and cultures are cultivated and developed, indigenous wisdom and knowledge of the local communities are augmented and integrated with the scientific practices; due to scientific innovations, useful ideas and technologies are commercialized. Collaboration with other research and technology universities across the globe will be consorting through our internationalization angles.

As this new mission is more resource rigorous, a new spirit of working prospect is ahead and we together can achieve reaching the apex of the hill.

There are also two research units; Behavioral and Social Studies Research Unit and Demography and Health Development Research Unit being accountable to the Research Directorate are also responsible to contribute in attaining the overall mission of the University. Besides, each college/institute/campus has their own coordination offices for Research, Community services and Technology Transfer Directorates.
