AMU president, Dr. Damtew Darza, along with the top management welcomed the team from China, BJTU, led by Professor Li Xuewei, former president of BJTU in his office. Expressing his pleasure in meeting the team, Dr. Damtew, gave a lowdown on a brief historical background of AMU from establishment its moves across 38 years; he said, recently AMU has 34 PhDs, 140 Masters and 76 Undergraduate programs. AMU has six campuses and is one of the eight research and first generation universities in Ethiopia; the bilateral collaboration with BJTU meets mutual interest and will build AMU’s capacity in joint research, student and staff exchange and which in turn ensures the quality of education and production of skilled professionals.
Professor Li Hongchang, Associate Dean of Faculty of Economics and Management, briefing on BJTU said that it was in 1896. School of Economics and Management (SEM) was established in 1996 and in 2011 it was approved as one of the first group 17 national pilot schools, he noted.
Professor Guo Xueneng, Outreach Director of BJTU, from department of accounting giving a brief explanation on BJTU programs, research, students and faculties said that the school has 12 undergraduate, 7 academic masters and 8 professional masters, 8 doctoral and 3 postdoctoral programs. Further explaining it, she said they have 5,600+ students among which 200+ are International students. She added that they want to share their experience especially in railway engineering and others.
Ashenafi Nana, a PhD student in Business Administration in BJTU University and the African students Forum Leader at BJTU explained that he got the first initiative to write a project on student exchange, post doc studies, research and related areas collaborating together with his home university presenting AMU’s profile, rich culture and resourcefulness of AMU’s location which gives much advantage and opportunity. Ashenafi also remarked that the BJTU team visited Helene Business School of Cape Town in South Africa and Addis Ababa University before coming to AMU. According to him the universities are ready to tie up with each other with an MoU to be signed very sooner.
