Arba Minch University (AMU) celebrated a major academic milestone by graduating a total of 2,350 students during its 38th Convocation Ceremonies, held on June 21–22, 2025 . The central event, hosted at the Abaya Campus Auditorium, honored 2,ዐ47 graduates, while Sawla Campus marked its 8th graduation ceremony, conferring degrees on 303 students across diverse undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In his address, AMU President Abdella Kemal (PhD, Ing.) highlighted the university’s contribution of 84,897 skilled professionals across diverse fields, reinforcing its commitment to quality education and research. He outlined AMU’s transition toward autonomy and the operationalization of a teaching referral hospital to bolster innovation. Urging graduates to embrace lifelong learning, he called on them to uphold ethics and serve as proud ambassadors of the institution.
Guest of Honor Dr. Demissie Admasu, Gamo Zone Chief Administrator and Vice-Chairman of AMU’s Board, stressed the need to shift from quantity to quality in education. “Education must drive economic growth and social transformation,” he asserted, encouraging graduates to become problem-solvers and entrepreneurs. He also commended AMU’s rigorous academic standards, reflected in its strong exit exam results.
Engineer Dagmawi Ayale, Administrator of the Gofa Zone and Guest of Honor at the Sawla Campus ceremony, emphasized the vital role of education in driving national and societal transformation. Addressing the graduates, he encouraged them to apply the knowledge they have gained, urging them not to rely solely on government employment but to become job creators and innovators within their communities.
Mr. Ermias Alemu, President of AMU’s Alumni Association, welcomed graduates into a network of national and global leaders, stating they are equipped to tackle challenges and uplift communities. He encouraged them to stay connected and contribute to AMU’s continued growth.
Head of Sawla Campus, Mr. Zeleke Dosa, noted that the campus, which commenced operations in 2008 EC with just 180 students across four programs, has grown significantly, now enrolling 3,189 students in 30 programs during the 2017 academic year. He emphasized that education is a long-term journey that demands perseverance, yet yields meaningful rewards. Mr. Zeleke urged graduates to embrace their future responsibilities and serve their country and communities with commitment and integrity.
Kwach Gatluok Let, a South Sudanese Psychology graduate with a CGPA of 3.71, expressed gratitude for AMU’s and the Gamo community, urged fellow international students to promote cross-cultural Unity.
Top-performing graduates, including international scholars, received gold medals and special recognitions.
Degrees were conferred by Dr. Ing. Bogale Gebremariam (Academic VP), while Dr. Malebo Mancha (Registrar) read the graduation roll. The ceremony, masterfully conducted by Mr. Fissiha Bekele.
