Arba Minch University (AMU), Ethiopia, in collaboration with Dr. B. R. Ambedkar from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, India, successfully hosted a day long online workshop on August 18, 2025. The workshop entitled “Design, Development, and Implementation of Course Evaluation through Outcome-Based Education (OBE) using Software Tools” brought together 40 faculty members and academic administrators from AMU. Its aim was to enhance AMU’s institutional capacity in effectively adopting OBE methodologies, a critical step towards achieving international accreditation. Click here to see more photos.
Prof. Tangellapalli Srinivas (PhD), Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Jalandhar, the workshop facilitator, a renowned OBE expert and recipient of the Innovative Teaching Award, provided a comprehensive perspective on the training. The session was meticulously structured to build from foundational concepts to advanced practical application, Prof. Srinivas noted. It began with an introduction to OBE and its significance for global accreditation followed by an in-depth exploration of Course File Contents & Outcome Design using Bloom’s Taxonomy, he explained.
Reiterating on the issue, he added, the practical core of the training covered strategic methods for Course Outcomes and Programme Outcomes (CO-PO) mapping and quality improvement and software tools demonstration where we introduced participants to powerful computational interfaces like GUI, App Designer, and Python for performing OBE computations which was designed to equip faculty with the immediate skills needed to transition from theory to implementation.
Mr. Eyob A., Head of the Department of Chemistry at AMU, articulated the workshop's strategic objectives of familiarizing academic staff with OBE principles, demonstrating the design of measurable Course Outcomes (COs) mapped to Programme Outcomes (POs) and providing hands-on training with modern computational tools for evaluation.
The workshop, coordinated by AMU’s Department of Chemistry, was a significant milestone for aligning academic quality processes with the Education and Training Authority (ETA) accreditation framework paving the way for future international accreditation standards.
