Arba Minch University (AMU) College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) department of Midwifery held a program accreditation discussion meeting with external professionals from Ethiopian Education & Training Authority (ETA) at Nech Sar Campus on May 2nd, 2025. Click here to see more photos.

Serekebirhan Takele (PhD), director for Academic Program, Evaluation and Implementation (APEI), said, ensuring our university with well-maintained infrastructure including adequate facilities and sanitation, technology integration and e-learning platforms is our priority. Underlining the college’s eye breaking efforts on program accreditation progresses, he noted that we have to work hard on listed issues of improvement to align with the standard.  

Dr. Desta Galcha, CMHS Chief Executive Director, speaking on the topic pointed that enhancing the quality of education involves creating more engaging, effective, and equitable learning experiences which can be achieved through various strategies including incorporating interactive learning, improving teacher training and support, investing in infrastructure and technology, and fostering community involvement. AMU as a research university is committed to improving quality of education and producing competitive quality manpower in our country’s development, he said. The inputs shared in the meeting will help us as spring board for our next work and we keep going ahead on the issues, he underscored.

Gizachew Yonas, a team member and coordinator from ETA, our team came here to assess the program according to Ethiopian Higher Education Quality Improvement Program and the accreditation is to help institutions to have opportunity to deliver high quality academy to society, he remarked. So, as the institutions have accreditation certificates, they would be internationally recognized as program of higher excellence quality in Ethiopia, Gizachew noted

Abinet Teshome, Institutional Quality Assurance Director for CMHS, said, the aim of the gathering is to discuss and get the inputs on the external evaluation of Midwifery program by ETA professionals according to the nine standards. On the other hand; Gebremariam Temesgen, head for Midwifery Department, also noted that the inputs taken from the discussion on the external assessment for accreditation of the program are very important to strengthen quality of education and produce qualified midwifery professionals, hence we proceed with the pace to complete the tasks.

AMU officials, professionals from ETA, Minlik II Hospital-Addis Ababa and Adare Hospital in Hawassa, staffs from Midwifery department and other staff working on program accreditation were in attendance.
