To further clarify the operational modalities of Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R & D Institute of Science and Technology (VTU)’s offer notification letter of October 3, 2025, the AMU President held a short discussion with Dr. Tolera Seda and Dr. Joshua Isaac JL. This consultation reaffirmed the framework for implementing the doctoral training program and strengthened the shared commitment to advancing AMU’s research capacity. Click here to see more photos.

Speaking on behalf of the University at the occasion, Dr. Tolera Seda, Director of the Community Engagement and University–Industry Linkage Directorate and mediator of the agreement, highlighted the significance of the partnership. He explained that the directorate is actively working to foster strong collaborations with both national and international institutions, aligning with AMU’s mission as a research university to enhance the academic profile of its PhD staff.  Dr. Tolera noted that the tuition fee waiver for meritorious candidates will be fully covered by VTU, which has also proposed a rigorous two-stage selection process to ensure merit-based admission. He further expressed the University’s appreciation for securing opportunities for 40 candidates over the next five years.

Dr. Joshua Isaac JL, from the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of AMU’s Institute of Technology and an Indian expatriate staff representing Vel Tech University, VTU, emphasized the significance of the partnership. He noted that Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology is among India’s top accredited universities. As AMU advances toward becoming an autonomous and research-intensive institution, he stressed, the importance of maintaining a well-qualified academic workforce with balanced MSc and PhD credentials. In this regard, the opportunity offered by Vel Tech University, providing places for 40 PhD candidates across seven departments, gives AMU strong momentum in achieving its institutional goals.

AMU will identify and nominate meritorious candidates from disciplines such as Engineering, Technology, Commerce, Management, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics during the first-level selection. In the second-level evaluation, Vel Tech University, through its departmental research committees, will review the nominated applications and conduct online interviews. Successful candidates will then receive a provisional Doctoral Research Appointment Order outlining the tuition fee waiver and stipend details.

The MoU takes effect immediately upon signing and remains valid for five years, and is planned for renewal for additional five years. The agreement was formally endorsed by the AMU President, with senior University officials attending the discussion.
