Arba Minch University (AMU) of Ethiopia and Far Eastern Federal University of Russia (FEFU) convened on July 17, 2024 to enhance collaborative efforts. Officials and researchers from both universities participated in the meeting which centered on proposals for inter-university cooperation and strengthening existing partnerships. During the event, AMU researchers delivered four presentations focusing on proposed collaborative research themes; additionally, the team visited AMU laboratories and research sites.

 Behailu Merdekios, Vice President of Research and Community Engagement, highlighted the memorandum of understanding previously signed between the two institutions. This agreement aims to foster academic and cultural exchange in education, research, and other activities with a focus on internationalizing higher education.

The Vice President emphasized that following the agreement, the institutions proposed collaborative research programs addressing critical challenges in biodiversity, agriculture, waste management, environmental monitoring, automation, AI, and robotics expected to yield benefits soon. He reaffirmed AMU's commitment to achieving shared goals through collaboration.

Sergei BELENEV, Deputy Director for Development at FEFU, highlighted that the visit and discussion at AMU were aimed at assessing its research and infrastructure capabilities while exploring new avenues for cooperation. He underscored the importance of expanding collaborations in student and staff exchanges, joint programs, and enhancing human and infrastructure resources. The Deputy Director assured that FEFU's collaboration with AMU would steadily expand, thrive and pledge to contribute actively to make the cooperation even more fruitful.

Climate-Smart Agriculture for Enhanced Soil Health and Reduced Crop Risk, Sustainable Waste Management Strategies, Unveiling Biodiversity with Drones and Underwater Robots, and shaping the future with Automation, AI, and Robotics were the proposed themes presented in the program expected to foster academic partnership and impactful research outcomes.

Far Eastern Federal University traces its origins back to 1899 when the Oriental Institute was established in Vladivostok. Today, FEFU stands as the sole classical university in Eastern Russia encompassing schools with longstanding traditions and research areas that constitute the foundation of its intellectual pursuits.
