The Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MInT) organized a consultation and awareness raising forum on building a conducive environment for entrepreneurship by facilitating innovation and technology transfer activities at Arba Minch University/AMU/. Click here to see more photos.

Kassahun Elias, Innovation Technology and Culture Development Desk Leader at MInT, emphasized the importance of enhancing institutional capacity, promoting innovation and technology management, and fostering culture of innovation.

Presentations by experts in design thinking, innovation leadership, and technology management provided participants with an overview of the concepts, methodologies, and best practices in these areas. Interactive group discussions from diverse professional Spectrum including representatives from MInT, AMU, researchers, technology transfer experts, educational institutions, youth entrepreneurs, private investors, and other relevant individuals and organizations allowed participants to engage in hands-on activities, exercises, and brainstorming sessions, collaborating, sharing ideas, and exploring innovative approaches.

Notable women-led startups in Ethiopia such as “Gebya”, “Lucy”, “YenePay”, “RIDE”, and “SoleRebel” were highlighted as role models fostering technology and innovation for gender equality and addressing challenges in creating startups.

Participants providing their feedback and recommendations on various aspects of the training said that the training meets the needs and expectations of the trainees. They also recommended that MInT in collaboration with other stakeholders should refine and finalize the design thinking, innovation leadership, and technology management based on information gathered during the forum.

Dr. Tolera Seda, the director for AMU Industry-Linkage and Technology Transfer Directorate, closing the forum underlined the importance of addressing ownership issues in technology transfer and expressed his gratitude for the resources provided and experiences shared by MInT which will significantly contribute to the future activities of the university.

Researchers and technology transfer experts from AMU, Gamo Zone Science and Technology Coordination Office, Arba Minch Technical and Vocational College, Arba Minch youth entrepreneurs and private investment representatives were in attendance. The Participants finally visited various innovations, technological and creative activities carried out by the university and model entrepreneurs in Arba Minch Town which provided the participants with a valuable opportunity to witness the practical implementation of the concepts discussed during the forum.
