A lecturer in Chemistry Department College of Natural Science at Abaya Campus, Mr Haftom Gebrekiros, who has been serving Arba Minch University for the last 9 years, is promoted as Assistant Professor from February 2016, the official communiqué states.
Completing his B.Sc. degree in Applied Chemistry from AMU in 2007, Mr Haftom, began his first job as Graduate Assistant-I. A year later, he resumed Master studies and again in 2011, he resumed his job as a lecturer in the department of Chemistry.
On his research achievement, he said, ‘‘Till date, my four research papers have been published, two each, in European and Asian international journals.’’ His papers had focus on extraction of natural products and removal of toxic heavy metal ions from industrial effluents using cheap adsorbents, etc.
Revealing future plans, he said, ‘‘Soon, I would be going for PhD in Chemistry related areas such as material Science, Soil Science and Environmental Science; yet, I will love to get Master in Public Administration to strengthen my political aspiration to serve the community.’’
On his goal in life, he quipped, ‘‘I would continue to pursue applied research that will not only build my individual capacity but also boost university’s visibility.’’
He feels taking plunge into politics will give him opportunity to serve the community in right way. He also wishes to strengthen government’s endeavor in tackling important issue of hunger and poverty in Ethiopia and strongly feels it’s his privilege to serve this university right from the day he joined it as a student.
