PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Federal Ministry of health (FMoH) Ethiopia has designed a cost-efficient integrated NTD control program that integrates disease-specific vertical programs into a coordinated initiative which links the program effectively with the general health system so as to enhance the impact of the interventions by leveraging focus of the health system. As part of this integrated approach, an integrated post-MDA coverage validation surveys will be undertaken in order to monitor NTD program performance and to support any improvements needed for the next rounds of MDA. This coverage survey will be carried out in an integrated manner in selected areas given PCT, particularly at crucial time points during the programs, as defined in the standard operating procedure of the Ministry. These sites will include districts where coverage might be suspiciously high or low, to ensure any corrective actions where needed. Therefore, the aim of this integrated post-MDA survey is to produce validated coverage estimates of reasonable precision at the implementation unit; so that insight can be gained from comparing these with IU-level reported coverage. If possible, it is also desirable for the survey to allow calculation of a single representative validated coverage estimate across all IUs, such that the overall performance of the PCT round can be assessed and compared against the reported coverage.
Arba Minch University has been chosen by the FMOH to conduct the post MDA coverage survey validation survey based on AMU’s success in previous post MDA coverage survey validation survey, & Independent Monitoring surveys as well its prior public health research experience, its staff expertise and commitment, and the potential of the CRTC-NTDs role in establishing a more formal university research network contributing to the control and elimination of NTDs in Ethiopia.
