Arba Minch University, in partnership with Vita/RTI Ethiopia, is offering four small-scale research grants for MSc students in 2017 E.C. as part of the Gamo Stove Project. This initiative aims to improve access to improved cookstoves (Mirt Injera and Efoye stoves) in rural Gamo through a Community-Led Total Approach.
Research Title 1: Measuring Changes to Household Air Pollution (HAP) as a Result of Adopting Improved Cookstoves (Mirt and Efoye) in Sample Households of Kucha and Kamaba Woredas in the Gamo Zone.
Objective: Measure changes in household air pollution (HAP) levels after adopting Mirt and Efoye cookstoves in selected households. Evaluate the potential health impacts of reduced exposure to indoor air pollutants for household members.
Research Title 2: Key Factors Influencing Improved Cook Stove Adoption in the Gamo Stove Project
Objective Identify the key socio-cultural, economic, and environmental factors affecting the adoption (purchase and the long-term continual use) of improved cookstoves in the Gamo region.
Research Title 3: Assessing the Impacts of Initial Purchase of Mirt and Efoye Improved Cookstoves (ICS) on Men and Women in the Gamo Stove Project: Target Households in Kamaba and Kucha Woredas
Objective Conduct the initial ICS purchase on men and women in the target households and understand changes in household dynamics, workload distribution, and gender roles associated with the use of Mirt and Efoye cookstoves, from the perspectives of men and women
Research Title 4: Evaluate the durability and acceptability of the Efoy stove and provide recommendations to improve the design: Target Households in Kamaba and Kucha Woredas
Objective • Evaluate the current design of the Efoy stove in terms of user acceptance and durability. Provide evidence-based recommendations for improving the design of the Efoy stove
