Tamru Tesseme (PhD), the Scientific Director of Arba Minch Water Technology Institute /AWTi/, welcoming the participants to the meeting, emphasized the importance of addressing fundamental issues related to the project's execution. The discussion would cover various topics including material and financial aspects, prospects and challenges, and other focus areas aligning the project with the university objectives and community needs, he remarked.

Bogale G/Mariam (PhD), Vice President for Academic Affairs, opening the review meeting, underscored the collaboration will greatly benefit both the university and the communities it serves and stressed the need for concentrated review efforts on the activities and necessary adjustments to meet community needs.

Krystof Verner (PhD), Project Coordinator and a director from CGS, said this review meeting would help to understand the risks and plan effective actions for the success.

The partnership between AMU and CGS was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding /MoU/ signed on November 8, 2024. Initiated two years ago, this collaboration seeks to enhance water resources management strategies with a budget of 1.5 million Czech Crowns approximately $66,300 funded by the Czech Development Agency. The project is scheduled to run until December 2026 focusing on improving access to clean water and enhancing the quality of life for local communities.

Since its inception in 2012, this collaborative initiative has expanded to include 15 projects and three of which involve AMU.

The meeting addressed critical water resource challenges recognizing the need to tackle both groundwater and surface water issues. Participants discussed the importance of comprehensive geological and hydrological assessments which are vital for developing effective local resources management strategies and activities. The model sites equipped with measurement instruments providing valuable insights into current geological and hydrological resources thereby laying the groundwork for future interventions are said to be of a great importance.
