This academic year (2016-17), AMU has introduced over 100 new research projects that are problem-solving and demand-driven along with 170 ongoing projects will incur ETB 10 Million to the exchequer. A Special Category for PhD students is the new feature added to the research template, Research Directorate Director, Dr Simon Shibru informed.

Dr Temesgen Endalew Legesse, the winner of Gold Medal, stood tall among 46 Doctors of Medicine graduated this year from College of Medicine and Health Sciences, nurtures a desire to make his tomorrow always better than today!
He scored 3.63 CGPA; convincingly flooring others he has absolutely unconventional approach to studies that catapult him to the top earning sublime recognition which he did it with finesse!

The 3rd batch of 46 ‘Doctors of Medicine’ from College of Medicine and Health Sciences has graduated in a glittering ceremony at Main Campus on 26th November, 2016. Deputy Health Minister, Dr Amir Aman, AMU top officials, kin of graduates and others graced the function.
Among three male top-scorers, Dr Temesgen Endalew Legesse bagged the gold medal for notching up 3.63 CGPA; followed by Dr Daniel Tamirat Cherkos, 3.60, and Dr Abdulfetah Mohammad Sula 3.51. The only female graduate, Dr Chaltu Nemomsa Beyene, was felicitated for earning 3.03 CGPA.
The ceremony got off to a flying start with Gamo Gofa Zone Cultural Band belting out famous ethnic numbers; but, it was Community School kids who stole the limelight for their congratulatory number.

Arba Minch University has inaugurated Sawla Campus as its infrastructure got ready to host 10 disciplines by two new colleges and a school on 5th November, 2016. Top AMU officials, various government officials and Sawla community participated in the celebration.
University President, Dr Damtew Darza, during opening, said, ‘‘AMU, Ethiopia’s pioneering institution in water resource engineering is expanding its programs and campuses to achieve its vision and all programs are compatible to market demands that complement national needs.’’
Thanking community for support, he said, Sawla Campus launched last year has faced many difficulties following delayed construction. But, now infrastructure in place, teaching and learning activities will run smoothly. The first phase construction has incurred ETB 26.6 Million while in second phase, library, classrooms; internal access roads and etc. will be built costing ETB 37.7 Million to university.
